A marquee partner tests its engineering—it does not yet prove the equity story.

The Wizard of Open Weights: Chris Alexiuk Makes AI Easy With Open Models

Chris Alexiuk has a simple rule about open source AI: If you believe in it, be loud about it. “We should be shouting about this technology from the rooftops,” said Alexiuk, a Toronto-based senior product research engineer in deep learning at NVIDIA who specializes in making open large language models (LLMs) practical for working developers. Trust Responsive Runtime Authorization for Agentic AI with Empirical Characterization of Policy Behavior and Parameter Sensitivity

arXiv:2611.06996v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: The policy that converts runtime estimates of an autonomous agent's condition into operational authority is rarely specified or measured. We empirically characterize the Trust Responsive Authorization Policy (TRAP), which maps an Authorization Readiness Score (ARS), a weighted combination of runtime trust, operational stability, and contextual risk, onto discrete authorization levels through an asymmetric rule: escalation requires consecutive observations above a band edge plus a margin, while a sharp drop in readiness restricts authority at once. On one matched set of 100 Monte Carlo traces, we compare TRAP with static, trust-only, risk-only, and symmetric policies. Under abrupt degradation, TRAP restricts at onset and re-escalates sooner after recovery than the symmetric policy, with the highest and, descriptively, least variable stability among the adaptive policies, although more of its post-recovery escalations occur below the selected trust threshold. Paired bootstrap intervals exclude zero for the remaining differences. In one-factor sweeps, recovery time rises with the escalation margin and run length, shifts with the score weights, and is unchanged by the restriction threshold. In an exploratory post-freeze experiment, when the same degradation is spread over 5-20 intervals, TRAP restricts only on the 4 traces that retain a single-interval drop above that threshold; averaged over all 100 traces, it holds authority above what readiness supports for 15.9-18.9 of the 20 degradation intervals, against 0.8 under abrupt degradation and about 10 for the symmetric policy. Its restriction advantage therefore depends on degradation being abrupt. All reported values are traceable to the publicly available, versioned research release.

University of Utah retains operational sovereignty as Redtail expands research access

Operational sovereignty gives universities authority over how shared computing resources are allocated, managed and secured. The University of Utah’s Redtail AI factory supercomputer brings advanced computing capabilities to a statewide community. Supporting researchers, students, administrators and external partners through that infrastructure requires more than computing capacity, according to Manish Parashar (pictured), chief AI officer of […] The post University of Utah retains operational sovereignty as Redtail expands research access appeared first on SiliconANGLE.

Show HN: SrcWranglr

I spend a lot of time diving deep into C/C++ code bases for various reasons. Normally for Vulnerability Research. I like to get a good feel for the software, it's data structures, control flow, etc. Are all usually important. In the past we have SourceTrail, this is now defunct and its abilities were somewhat limited. If you have thousands to spend you can grab a Understand license... Wait maybe thats SourceNavigator. Either way I wrote SrcWranglr. Its my very first Rust project (congrats to the insufferable Rusteans, I finally cracked and learned Rust).Anyhow SrcWranglr is wicked free, wicked fast, has a modern UI, and features that assist in finding bugs/vulns. You can run semgrep rules over the codebase, or have a fuzz harness generated for you by the program with ease.. Its still super early in development but it already helped me discover a 0day :-).. Give it a shot if you want. I am open to any suggestions and if it is in your heart to contribute let me know. I only get to work on personal projects here and there on account of work... But yea enough babbling.https://github.com/jdefrancesco/SrcWranglr Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50380536 Points: 1 # Comments: 0

Structured Priors: Towards an algebra of component priors for prior-data fitted networks

arXiv:2611.04056v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Prior-data fitted networks are typically trained using synthetic data generated by a single, manually constructed generator. In cases where such a generator combines multiple components, e.g., in TabPFN, Mitra, or TabICLv2, this is achieved through a mixture using manually specified weights, the impact of which on the network only becomes apparent after pre-training. Instead of such a hand-built generator, this work proposes a structured prior: a small set of named component priors, linked by operators whose algebraic properties are formally proven and whose influence on the trained network has been validated. Within a measure-theoretic framework, the operators of mixture, convolution, amplitude scaling, local transform, and projection are defined. Their governing laws are proven. These operators are implemented in the macl2l software package. Experiments demonstrate that the implemented generators reproduce the identities within the resolution of a permutation test. Furthermore, it is shown that trained networks obey the distributive law; that a mixed prior composed of small components performs as well as or better than any individual component in seven out of eight open regression benchmarks; and that on two of these tables a structured prior reaches, with a ninth of the data budget, an error that a generic random-function prior does not reach even with the full budget. A theorem on model averaging demonstrates that networks trained on individual components constitute the Bayes predictor for the mixture, provided that the component networks are themselves the Bayes predictors for their respective priors. However, the pre-registered test of this averaged predictor with trained component networks failed, because the networks identify the generating component too rarely. The paper proposes a research program focused on the algebra of structured priors for prior-data fitted networks.

EMBERS: Empirically Motivated Robustness Testing of Deep Research Systems via Defect-Guided Fuzzing

arXiv:2611.03723v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Deep Research (DR) systems extend large language models into autonomous agents that decompose complex information needs, iteratively search the web, and synthesize evidence to answer challenging questions. However, their multi-stage execution may introduce robustness risks, as variations in user questions or intermediate search inputs may propagate across research stages and lead to incorrect answers. Existing evaluations focus on task-solving capabilities or robustness against external evidence disturbances, leaving intrinsic weaknesses in DR execution insufficiently explored. Thus, we conduct an empirical study of 1,932 execution trajectories from three representative DR systems and identify nine recurring defect categories across subquestion formulation, online search, and final reasoning. Guided by these findings, we propose EMBERS, an empirically motivated, defect-guided fuzzing framework for robustness testing of DR systems. Starting from correctly answered seed questions, EMBERS generates stage-targeted test inputs using defect-guided mutation, web-search-assisted fidelity assurance, and diversity-aware seed maintenance. Experiments across 16 framework--model--dataset settings show that EMBERS achieves 3.21 times the failure-discovery throughput of the strongest baseline under identical testing budgets. Human and LLM-assisted evaluations demonstrate that most generated inputs preserve the original information need and necessary contextual constraints. Moreover, model fine-tuning experiments show consistent-answer performance improvement, highlighting their value for robustness testing and model improvement.

We Ran a Research Sprint With AI. The AI Worked. The Research Didn't

arXiv:2611.03946v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Generative AI tools for research are widely deployed, yet individual productivity gains do not guarantee better team research. We argue that how AI use is structured matters alongside access. Personal AI tools may amplify two failures under deadline pressure: a consumption bottleneck, in which generation outpaces team-visible evaluation, and AI-induced research silos, in which private human-AI loops displace shared decision-making. We motivate this position with a mechanism-generating pilot: a 100-minute research sprint with twelve researchers in three independently operating teams, within a seventeen-person session. Both patterns recurred across teams and evidence sources. Of 33 logged AI interactions, one was accepted outright and 27 lacked a recorded disposition; missing records alone do not establish absent evaluation. A parallel autonomous pipeline produced a complete draft without in-session human evaluation, illustrating production capacity rather than comparative quality. We propose Human-AI-Human collaboration: an interaction topology in which AI connects researchers' contexts and supports inspectable collective evaluation and decision-making. The pilot does not isolate AI-specific effects from time pressure or workflow practices. We close with seven modular, falsifiable design hypotheses, prioritizing shared context and team-visible evaluation checkpoints for controlled follow-up.

New research indicates that the cost of using AI models varies significantly across different languages, with token consumption differing by up to 17 times.

arXiv:2610.36184v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Bengali, spoken by over 230 million people, remains severely under-resourced in spoken language research. Existing open Bengali ASR corpora are confined to short, read or crowd-sourced speech and lack speaker diarization and long-form audio. We present Lipi-Ghor, a large-scale weakly-supervised Bengali speech corpus comprising 885 hours of audio sourced from 998 YouTube videos across 596 unique channels, spanning 17 diverse domains including audiobooks, drama, religious sermons, news, and regional dialects. Each recording is annotated in SSTT format (Speaker, Speech, Transcription, Timestamp), which combines automated diarization with Bengali YouTube caption tracks. To our knowledge, Lipi-Ghor is the first Bengali speech corpus to pair large-
